Well it's just a few days until the 2010 NZI Sevens begin, so we thought it would be good to tell you some more about ourselves. Below is some info on the group, and over there on the right is some more detail about each bear. Also over there on the right, under the poll. Yes that's it. There is a link to join our Facebook group. Go on, you know you want to...
The Carebears are a group of 15 thirty something’s, with the exception of one young upstart, who is a pain in the butt, and thinks he is all that and a packet of chips.
We are mostly Auckland based, though a couple make the pilgramige over from Brisbane There are a mixture of guys with kids and some that may have, but not that they know of (or want to admit too!). Obviously some of the bears are single, now it would be indiscreet to mention which ones, because the last thing they would want is to be mobbed by a bevy of attractive single girls, but if pushed we would be be able to hint that a couple of them are quite "friendly" and maybe inclined to drift off into "dreams during the day". Most of us have been going to the Sevens in various guises for a few years now and 2010 will be the third year of bears so we are working to improve the costumes but not change them too much.
Champ Bear, (aka Steve F) came up with the idea of Care Bears after being a smurf the year before. At first this idea was met with much disdain, but after pointing out that old, grumpy gits can actually be cute and cuddly, and that girls like things that are cute and cuddly, we all soon warmed to the idea. Coming up with the idea was the easy part. Trying to find someone to make the costumes was the really hard part. No dress makers or repair places would even entertain the idea!
Once again Champ came up with the solution, god bless him, his family, they came up trumps and made 12 costumes for us. They were a hit with everyone at the 2008 sevens. (Apart from some loser at TVNZ who thought we were English lager louts, who were just there to leer at women (well only four of us are English!!))
An expanded group of bears again attended in 2009, including our first overseas professional, which shows the dedication it takes to put in the hours of practice, both mental and physical to be a Care Bear. There was an initial nervousness as to whether the bears would be as popular the second time around, but of course these fears proved to be groundless. Lets be honest, you can never have too much caring!
The Care Bears by their nature can be quite adventurous, and can occasionally be seen away from their natural habitat of the Cake Tin. Even straying as far as the occasional dance party... Click here to see!
They are also available for Weddings, 21st's and Barmitzvah's
Bring on Feb 2010... prepare to stare... and prepare to care!
